The Canadians boosted their goal difference and their chances of reaching the semi-finals by thrashing Namibia 17-0.

Brienne Stairs scored five and Sara McManus notched four, while Stephanie Norlander and Hannah Haughn each bagged a double.

Amanda Woodcroft, Elise Wong and Madeline Secco also got on the scoresheet, Danielle Hennig scoring the final goal.

It was the biggest win by any team in the Women's Series Finals so far – surpassing Malaysia's 12-0 hammering of Singapore – and leaves Namibia with a minus-24 goal difference in the pool with one game still to come.

Spain, who face the Namibians in their final pool game tomorrow, neededa big win to respond, and they found it at Estadio Betero with four goals in the final period.

They went ahead inside a quarter of an hour through Marta Segu, before three goals in as many minutes – Lola Riera and Berta Bonastre either side of a Belarusian goal from Krestina Papkova – put Spain ahead 3-1 at halftime.

Papkova's second pulled Belarus to within one but Salvatella restored the two-goal cushion, before they ran away with the match with four strikes in the final eight minutes.

Riera got her second and Carlota Petchame netted a three-minute double, while Begoña Garcia added number eight.

Canada and Spain, having drawn their opening group games, both have four points.

Tomorrow sees the final group matches – Canada face Belarus and Spain play Namibia in Pool A, while South Africa take on Thailand and Wales clash with Italy in Pool B.
