Hosts Cape Verde's women's team won their opening two Group B matches as 3x3 basketball competition got underway today at the African Beach Games on the island of Sal.

The home nation started their campaign at Arena 3 in Santa Maria Beach Park by beating Tunisia 14-12 before defeating Botswana 15-10.

Botswana's loss was their second of the day having earlier gone down 12-3 against Mali.

In Group A, Nigeria and Togo both picked up two victories today.

Nigeria thrashed Djibouti 21-0 prior to overcoming Algeria 18-7.

Togo firstly beat Namibia 14-8 and then went onto defeat Djibouti 21-1.

Namibia overcame Algeria 14-6 in today's one other Group A clash.

In the men's event, there were Group A wins for Ivory Coast and Mali.

Ivory Coast beat Cape Verde 14-12, while Mali defeated Ghana 21-17.

In Group B, Algeria overcame Togo 17-8 before Tunisia claimed a 21-11 victory over Djibouti.

Beach soccer action continued today with Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal and Cape Verde all making it two wins out two.

In Group A, Morocco beat Equatorial Guinea 7-2 before Cape Verde defeated Algeria 13-3.

Nigeria thumped Djibouti 29-2 in today's first Group B game prior to Senegal overcoming Kenya 11-0.

Among the other events continuing today were those in beach volleyball.

Home duo Janice and Ludmila Varela performed impressively in registering two Group A victories in the women's event.

Having beaten Gambia's Abie Kujabi and Fatoumatta Ceesay 21-19, 23-21, they went onto defeat Tanzania's Hellen Richard Mwegoha and Yasinta Remmy Kasinisala 21-11, 21-11 to move to the top of the standings with an unbeaten record from three matches.
