Algeria’s Habiche Oussama emerged the winner of the men’s singles, holding off Tunisia’s Mohammed Mansouri.

The podium was rounded off by Nigeria’s Micheal Moses.

The same three countries received medals in the women’s event but Tunisia were able to celebrate gold on this occasion.

Their rower Sarra Zammali claimed victory in the final, followed by Algeria’s Rouba Amina and Nigeria's Esther Toko.

Oussama and Amina joined forces to deliver gold for Algeria in the mixed team competition, with Moses and Toko taking silver.

Mansouri and Zammali won bronze.

Morocco celebrated gold and silver in the mixed doubles beach tennis competition.

It followed Anass Bouaouda and Camilia Benabdeljalil progressing to the final, where their faced compatriots Ghazousani Youssef and Sarah Benabdeljalil.

Cape Verde were left to settle for bronze after their teams suffered defeats in early matches to their Moroccan opponents.

Competition is taking place at Santa Maria Beach.

Around 1,000 athletes are participating in the Games.

Forty-two countries are being represented across 10 days of competition, running until June 23.

Eleven sports are on the programme – athletics, 3x3 basketball, beach handball, beach soccer, beach tennis, beach volleyball, coastal rowing, freestyle football, karate kata, kiteboarding and open water swimming.

Cape Verde will compete in all 11 sports on the eastern island of the archipelago nation.
