The Egyptian star, runner-up in 2016 and 2018, faced France’s Camille Serme in the final of the season-ending competition.

Serme stormed into the lead, the 30-year-old claiming the opening game 11-3.

She strengthened her grip of the match by taking the second 11-8, but the fourth seed proved unable to close out victory.

El Welily began her fightback by clinching the third game 11-7, before winning the fourth 11-4 to level.

The momentum remained with the home favourite as she clinched the decider 11-6.

The men’s final looked on course to deliver a second comeback win of the day when the all Egyptian clash between Karim Abdel Gawad and Mohamed Abouelghar took place.

Gawad was considered the favourite, as he is ranked three places higher than the world number seven.

He appeared on course to live up to the billing when he took the opening two games 12-10, 11-6.

Abouelghar, making his maiden appearance at the Finals, claimed the following games 11-5, 11-8 to take the match into a decider.

His rival responded impressively as Gawad regained the initiative to take the final game 12-10 to win the title.

The victory came exactly one week on from the Egyptian's wedding.
