Scotland's Gary Anderson and Peter Wright opened their campaign at the Professional Darts Corporation World Cup of Darts in Hamburg with a comprehensive win over Denmark's Per Laursen and Niels Heinsøe today.

The second seeds, who were last year's runners-up, triumphed 5-0 in the best-of-nine-legs round-of-32 match at the German city's Barclaycard Arena.

They will face Sweden's Dennis Nilsson and Magnus Caris, who defeated Brazil's Diogo Portela and Artur Valle 5-1.

Elsewhere, 2018 quarter-finalists Seigo Asada and Haruki Muramatsu of Japan won through to the second round in dramatic fashion with a 5-4 victory over Gibraltar’s Dyson Parody and Antony Lopez.

Next up for them are Singapore's Paul Lim and Harith Lim after they upset third-seeded Welshmen Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton 5-3.

South Africa’s Devon Petersen and Vernon Bouwers, meanwhile, stunned sixth seeds Daryl Gurney and Brendan Dolan of Northern Ireland 5-4.

Awaiting them in the second round are New Zealand’s Cody Harris and Haupai Puha, who overcame Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas and Mindaugas Barauskas 5-1.

Today also saw Belgium’s Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri Van den Bergh race past Hong Kong with a 5-1 win.

Standing between them and a place in the quarter-finals are home favourites Max Hopp and Martin Schindler following their 5-1 success at the expense of Hungary's Pál Székely and János Végső.

The other eight round-of-32 ties are scheduled to take place tomorrow.
