Ryo Sagawa continued his impressive run as he topped qualifying in the skateboard street competition at the International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE) World Series in Montpellier today.
Sagawa was victorious in his native Japan at last month's FISE World Series event, seeing off the competition in Hiroshima.
The 19-year-old carried on in the same vein as he scored 86 points to top the table at the FISE World Series qualifying.
Another Japanese competitor, Ike Keyaki, who finished second behind Sagawa in Hiroshima, also safely saw himself into the next round with the seventh best score.
Keyaki, 18, and Sagawa are set to be at the forefront as skateboarding makes its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, and will again be looking to prove why in Montpellier.
For the home fans, Frenchman Benjamin Garcia looked promising as he qualified third with a score of 84.5 points.
Of the 32 competitors in qualifying, 24 safely made it through to tomorrow's semi-finals.
Today also saw qualifying for several events get underway, including BMX freestyle, breaking and scooter freestyle and the Opening Ceremony.
