Ukraine’s Diana Lunina and Maryna Samoday were the lowest ranked duo to progress to the main draw in the women's competition at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour in Ostrava. 

Seeded 20th, they nevertheless fought their way through as one of the eight pairs to reach then pool stage of this four star event, due to start tomorrow in the Czech Republic city. 

After defeating 13th-seeded Norwegians Ingrid Lunde and Oda Johanne Ulveseth 21-17, 21-19, they achieved an even more impressive shut-out of 21-17, 21-17 against fourth-seeded Megumi Murakami and Miki Koshikawa of Japan

Murakami and Koshkawa were the only top-eight team to drop out of contention, as the rest of women's qualifying went according to the form book.

Eight pairs from seven countries reached the 32-team main draw, with Brazil the only nation to have two pairs to go through.

Top-seeded Barbara Seixas De Freitas and Fernanda Alves cruised through, while third ranked qualifiers Talita Da Rocha Antunes and Taiana Lima had a tougher time, needing three sets to defeat Paula Soria Gutierrez and Maria Belen Carro Marquez de Acunya of Spain.

The longest running qualifier of the day lasted 44 minutes over three sets before the Latvian pairing of Tina Graudina and Anastasija Kravcenoka finally bested Greece’s Vasiliki Arvaniti and Panagiota Karagkouni 21-13, 19-21, 16-14.

In the men's qualifying, two pairings each from the United States - William Allen and Stafford Slick and William Priddy and Theo Brunner, Austria - Martin Ermacora and Moritz Pristauz and Robin Seidl and Phillipp Waller and Germany - Nils Ehlers and Lars Fluggen, Phillipp Bergmann and Yannick Harms - went through.

George Wanderley and Andre Stein of Brazil and Aaron Nusbaum and Michael Plantinga of Canada also qualified.
