Egypt’s world number seven Nouran Gohar earned a place in the women’s final at the Professional Squash Association (PSA) British Open in Hull as she defeated the world number three, compatriot Nour El Tayeb.

It was the second upset by thee 21-year-old Gohar in successive days following her quarter-final defeat of world number one Raneem El Welily.

An 11-9, 11-2, 6-11, 11-9 win put her back into a final she first reached as an 18-year-old – and now Gohar looks capable of winning the women’s title at the oldest tournament in the game.

To do so, however, she will need to defeat France’s world number four Camille Serme, who ended home hopes of the title by beating British number one Sarah-Jane Perry, who had defeated Egypt’s world champion Noor El Sherbini in the previous round.

On this occasion Perry, world-ranked sixth, was unable to reach the heights of the previous night at Allam Sport Centre within the University of Hull, and the French player won 12-10, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11.

While El Tayeb’s ambition of reaching the British Open was frustrated once again, there was no hitch for her husband, Egypt’s Ali Farag, who booked his men’s final place with a victory over New Zealand’s Paul Coll.

The world champion was made to work very hard for his win, however, coming through 10-12, 11-7, 11-4, 10-12, 11-7.

His opponent in the final will be former world champion and compatriot Mohamed Elshorbagy, who will be seeking to go one better than his runners-up position last year following his 11-9, 11-3, 11-9 win over fellow Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad.
