The International Triathlon Union (ITU) Women's Committee is calling for nominations for its 2019 award of excellence.

The committee, chaired by Tomoko Wada, has asked national federations to submit proposals for recipients of the award by May 29.

Nominees are recognised for their contribution towards the advancement of women in sport through triathlon or Paratriathlon.

This year's winner will be revealed at the ITU Congress in Lausanne in August.

"I want to thank our National Federations for their continued commitment to promoting women in our sport and creating environments of equality in which they can thrive,” said Wada.

"Each year we look forward to receiving the nominations and learning more about incredible individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep triathlon moving forward.

"Our commission is tasked with ensuring that female athletes, volunteers and staff are represented fairly and their voices heard, but every year we are inspired all over again by the stories behind the nominees for this important award.”

Teresa Roden of the United States won the 2018 award of excellence.

The American was rewarded for her grassroots project.

Roden established "i-tri: Transformation through Triathlon" in 2010, which helps young girls gain confidence by undertaking a triathlon.

The programme is aimed at young girls with challenging social or emotional situations.
