Irek Rizaev earned a little bit of history for himself at the WizinK Center in Madrid tonight as he won the opening event in the European Series that has been launched this year by  the International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE).

Competing in the BMX freestyle park category, the 21-year-old Russian finished top of the Pro: Qualification Group 1 with 88.17 points.

Britain’s Declan Brooks was second on 85.67 points, followed by 17-year-old Latvian Ernests Zebolds, who totalled 84.50, and Kenneth Esquivel of Costa Rica, who scored 84.43.

The semi-finals will bring tomorrow’s programme at this indoor arena to a close, with the final being scheduled for the third and final day on Sunday (May 5).

Before the second qualifying grpup action got underway there was a Ollie skateboard contest involving a trick where the rider and board leap into the air without the use of the rider's hands that was won by Spain’s Danny Leon.

The women's BMX freestyle park action is due to start tomorrow morning.

The programme includes five of the sports that have already become a key feature of the FISE World Series.

On the agenda in the Spanish capital are BMX freestyle park, BMX freestyle flatland, skateboard, roller freestyle park and freestyle scooter.

The second stop in the European Series is due to held be the French city of Chateauroux, located a two-and-a-half hour drive away from Paris, with action running on July 20 and 21.
