India's Saurav Ghosal and Hong Kong's Annie Au both won comfortably their opening matches at the Asian Individual Squash Championships in Kuala Lumpur. 

Ghosal dominated against Hong Kong's David William Pelino, beating him 11-5, 11-2, 11-2 at Bukit Jalil's National Squash Centre.

His next opponent will be Ryunosuke Tsukue of Japan, who caused an upset against Mohd Addeen Idrakie.

The unseeded player defeated 13th seed and home favourite Mohd Addeen Idrakie 11-3, 11-5, 11-6.

In the women's competition, Au despatched Iran's Hadis Farzad 11-5, 11-7, 11-4. 

She will face 12th seed Lai Wen Li, who boasts home advantage.

The Malaysian had come back from one set down to win 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 against Japan's Risa Sugimoto.

The competition continues tomorrow. 

Defending champions England are on track to take their ninth title in the women's European Team Squash Championships, taking place at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham.

The team, featuring 2018 Commonwealth silver medallist Sarah-Jane Perry, defeated Scotland 3-0 and Wales 2-1 on the opening day of competition.

The defending champions in the men's event, France, did not start as well.

They comfortably beat Hungary 4-0 in their first clash but drew 2-2 with Scotland in their second.
