Michelle Li defended her women’s singles title at the Pan American Individual Badminton Championships at Aguascalientes in Mexico.

The top seed faced Brittney Tam in an all-Canadian final at the Luis Armando Montoya Navarro at Centro Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte venue.

Li claimed the opening game of the tie in impressive fashion, but was forced to battle for the second.

The defending champion ultimately sealed a 21-15, 24-22 victory to clinch the title for the fourth time.

United States’ Jennie Gai and Crystal Pan won bronze medals.

Cuba’s Osleni Guerrero won the men’s title for the third time after seeing off Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon.

He triumphed 21-11, 22-20 to win the event for the first time since 2014.

Mexico’s Job Castillo and Canada’s Jason Ho-shue completed the podium.

The latter was able to celebrate men’s doubles success with Nyl Yakura as the Canadians beat Guerrero and Leodannis Martinez of Cuba 21-11, 20-22, 21-10.

The women’s doubles final saw Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai claim the title.

They overcame fellow Canadians Catherine Choi and Josephine Wu 21-15, 27-25 to take gold.

Wu secured the mixed doubles crown with Joshua Hurlburt-Yu, the duo beating Brazil’s Fabricio Farias and Jacqueline Lima.

Wu and Hurlburt-Yu prevailed 21-14, 21-19 in the final.
