The world record holder scored nine in the shoot-off to snatch gold from Vermeulen.

The result gave Lopez a 10th stage win of her career and ensured she moved back to the top of the world rankings ahead of Turkey’s Yesim Bostan.

"I was nervous because the World Cup was coming back to Colombia and it was a chance to win my 10th one,” Lopez said.

"You can see that the level is increasing and anyone can win, I can be beaten.

"It’s hard because you train a lot – but it’s cool, because that’s the goal, to improve the level and prove that the women can shoot better than the men.

"There’s a lot of people out there that can be as good as we are.”

Alexis Ruiz of the United States clinched bronze by beating Denmark’s 146-145 in another close medal match.

Dutch star Mike Schloesser claimed a 149-145 win over American Braden Gellenthien in the men’s individual compound gold medal match.

France’s Jean Philippe Boulch won the bronze medal as he triumphed in a tie-break against Tate Morgan after his match with the American had ended level at 145-145.

Colombia edged the US by 230-229 in the women’s team gold medal match, with Italy overcoming Peru 222-195 for bronze.

The men’s team final saw Italy win 234-231 against France, while the Netherlands beat the second American team 233-232.

The US won the mixed team event by beating France 155-152 in final.

Hosts Colombia triumphed 156-148 against the Netherlands to take bronze.

Recurve finals will take place tomorrow in Medellin.
