Hosts Nigeria narrowly got the better of Mauritius in the final as the mixed team event concluded today at the All-African Badminton Championships in Port Harcourt.

With the scores level at 2-2, the home nation’s duo of Anuoluwapo Opeyori and Dorcas Adesokan combined to beat Mauritius' Georges Julien Paul and Kate Foo Kune 21-19, 21-19 in the decisive mixed doubles contest at Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre.

As reported by Concise News, Nigeria took a 1-0 lead thanks to Opeyori’s 21-11, 21-16 win over Mauritius’ Aatish Lubah in the men’s singles before Foo Kune restored parity with a 21-12, 21-16 victory over Uchechukwu Deborah Ukeh in the women’s singles.

Men's doubles pairing Lubah and Paul then defeated Clement Krobakpo and Enejoh Abah in straight sets to put Mauritius 2-1 ahead prior to Nigeria’s Ukeh and Adesokan overcoming Aurélie Allet and Lorna Bodha 21-8, 21-10 in the women’s doubles to make it 2-2.

It set up an thrilling finale in the mixed doubles with Opeyori and Adesokan holding their nerve to seal a memorable triumph for the hosts.

An individual competition is due to start tomorrow and conclude on Sunday (April 28).
