It helped the country finish the day on 85 points at the top of the team standings, leading Bulgaria by 10 heading into the last day of women’s wrestling at Polyvalent Hall Bucharest tomorrow.

In the 50 kilograms gold medal bout, Livach trailed Bulgaria’s Miglena Georgieva Selishka 4-4 on criteria with less than 15 seconds left, but she was able to gain the 6-4 outright advantage to win her first senior-level European title.

Husyak, meanwhile, also beat Bulgarian opposition in Evelina Nikolova in the 55kg final, triumphing 10-4.

Reigning world champion Cherkasova gave Ukraine their third and last gold medal with victory at 68kg.

In what turned out to be the most exciting bout of the day, she and Czech opponent Adéla Hanzlíčková combined to score 17 points

But it was Cherkasova who prevailed in the end, winning 11-6.

Bulgaria finished with one gold medal along with the silvers for Selishka and Nikolova.

Bilyana Zhivkova Dudova was the country’s sole podium topper with success at 59kg.

The 57kg world silver medallist made the smooth transition up to the weight and capped her run to her second consecutive continental crown by defeating Russia’s Svetlana Lipatova 3-0.

Dudova scored an inactivity point and a takedown to help Bulgaria claim 25 points for first place.

Turkey are third having amassed 70 points.

They had a champion in Yasemin Adar at 76kg and a trio of bronze medallists – Evin Demirhan at 50kg, Bediha Gun at 55kg and Elif Yesilirmak at 59kg.

Adar, last year's world silver medallist, overcame Austria’s Martina Kuenz 6-1 in her final.

She used an arm spin and a four-point throw to secure her fourth consecutive European title.

Adar entered the European Championships ranked second in the world and will now take over top spot.
