The men's Spanish team of Sergio Galan, Jose Manuel Carbonell and Francisco Jose Salazar defeated Turkey's Kutluhan Duran, Emre Vefa Goktas and Ali Sofuoglu in the final.

They took their country's fourth gold medal of the competition at Pabellon Multiusos sports hall.

It was also the third consecutive European gold medal for Spain in male team kata. 

“We are really thrilled because it is the third time we got the continental title," said Salazar.

"It was a very difficult final but we had the support from the stands. 

"This is what helped us to take the title."

The women's team of Lidia Rodriguez, Raquel Roy and Marta Vega caused an upset against defending champions Italy, whose team comprised Terryana D'Onofrio, Michela Pezzetti and Carola Casale.

“We are really proud because all the hard work we have been doing really paid off," said Rodriguez.

"We are really happy about getting this gold medal, even more when we could do it at home with the support from the stands."

Today's success saw Spain top the medal table with five golds and one bronze.

There were more Spanish golds in the Para-karate events, with Juan Antonio Sepulcre winning the men's wheelchair competition and Isabel Fernandez triumphing in the women's.
