France ended the first day of competition at Tbilisi Sport Palace at the top of the medal table with one gold, one silver and two bronzes.

Today, Chaine secured victory against Magdiel Estrada of Cuba in the men's -73kg final. 

It was his first IJF World Judo Tour gold medal, the world number 43 having beaten athletes from the likes of Kazakhstan, Brazil, Poland, Mongolia and Russia to seal victory. 

Russia's Denis Iartcev took the first bronze medal in that field with victory over Greece's Georgios Markarian, with Mongolia's Odbayar Ganbaatar securing the second against Georgia's Valeri Iashvili. 

Junior world champion Sanne Vermeer of the Netherlands earned her first senior IJF gold medal after beating compatriot Geke Van Der Berg in the women's -63kg final.

Germany's Martyna Trajdos defeated Britain's Lucy Renshall in the first bronze medal match, before Cuba's Maylin Del Toro Carvajal won against Italy's Edwidge Gwend in the second. 

Barbara Timo secured her first gold medal for Portugal in the women's -70kg final, after switching allegiance from Brazil in January. 

She triumphed against Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Laura Vargas Koch of Germany.

Bronze went to Italy's Alice Bellandi and Puerto Rico's Maria Perez, who beat Russia's Alena Prokopenko and Israel's Yarden Mayersohn, respectively. 

The final gold medal of the day went to Frank De Wit of the Netherlands in the men's -81kg final thanks to victory over Germany's Timo Cavelius.

Canada's Antoine Valois-Fortier sealed the first bronze medal of the category after beating Portugal's Anri Egutidze, while Georgia's Tato Grigalashvili secured the second with victory over France's Alpha Oumar Djalo.
