Playing at the ANHA Arena in Doha, the 28-year-old, a three-time world champion and the reigning Olympic gold medallist, advanced into the next round with an 11-7, 11-7, 11-4, 18-16 victory.

She will now face her compatriot Wang Manyu in the last four of the Platinum World Tour event, after the world number three saw off Singapore's Feng Tianwei 11-5, 11-9, 11-3, 7-11, 11-7.

The other two quarter-finals are set to take place tomorrow.

In the men's draw China's world number two Xu Xin came from behind to scrape through his round-of-16 match 3-2.

Having at one stage been two games down, the 29-year-old eventually triumphed in the best of seven match, 9-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-8, 13-11, 11-4 against Japan's Yuya Oshima.

As a reward for that victory the top seed will now face Germany's world number 16 Patrick Franziska, who beat another Japanese player Koki Niwa in a thriller of his own 4-3.

At the other end of the draw in a more comfortable victory the world number three and second seed Lin Gaoyuan of China beat South Korea's Woojin Jang 4-1.

He will now face Chinese Taipei's Yun-Li Lin in tomorrow's quarter-finals.
