Vaneisha Cadogan has replaced the retired Dave Farmer as director of the National Olympic Academy (NOA) at the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA).

The teacher turned sports administrator, who was responsible for the development of the national physical education curriculum in Barbados, says she is “very excited” to take up her new role.

“Sports and education have been my life and to marry the two at this point in my career is like a dream come true,” she said.

“It’s definitely a blessing.”

Cadogan taught physical education (PE) for most of her teaching career and later become the first education officer for PE at the Ministry of Education.

Before joining the BOA, she was a senior education officer at the Ministry of Education.

In announcing the news, BOA President Sandra Osborne thanked Farmer for his work.

“Dave has done an excellent job of taking the academy from its infancy and making it into an institution that is recognised for excellence, each year turning out several qualified sports administrators,” said Osborne.

“The academy has also been active in promoting Olympic values in schools and in the community.

“Given Ms Cadogan’s background, I am satisfied she is the right person to build on this foundation and to take the academy even further.”

The NOA is the educational arm of the BOA, with a mission to promote the ideals of Olympism and fair play though educational and cultural activities.
