The International Skating Union (ISU) has awarded the 2020 European Short Track Championships to Hungary.

Debrecen will stage the event between January 24 and 26 following a meeting of the ISU Council in Tokyo.

Hungary has become a growing force in short track, largely due to brothers Shaolin Sándor Liu and Shaoang Liu.

The pair were both part of the Hungarian relay team which won the 5,000 metres title at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

Budapest hosted the last edition of the European Short Track Championships in Hungary, in 1998.

Debrecen also staged the 2013 World Championships at Főnix Hall.

It was also decided by the ISU Council to stage the governing body's 2022 Congress in Las Vegas.

The American entertainment capital came out of top from seven bids with the key meeting due to take place between June 6 and 10.

It will be organised by US Figure Skating with support from US Speedskating.
