FIFA’s Council has approved India as hosts for the 2020 Under-17 Women’s World Cup during a meeting in Miami.

It means the country will host another Under-17 World Cup, three years after it held the men’s edition.

As hosts India are guaranteed a spot in the tournament, meaning they will play in it for the first time.

According to the Indian Express, it is likely the event will be played in four cities.

"We are delighted to announce that India has been confirmed as the host of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020," the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said in a tweet.

Set to host their second junior event, the AIFF is, according to the Express, now considering bidding for several other international tournaments, including the men’s Under-20 World Cup in 2021, both the men’s and women’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-23 Championships in 2022 and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

FIFA also announced Brazil will now host this year’s men’s Under-17 World Cup after Peru was stripped of the hosting rights.

The event was due to go ahead in Peru in October, but FIFA said following various inspection visits it found a "number of organisational and infrastructure challenges linked to the event delivery".
