Denis Muzhzhukhin, head of the National Anti-Doping Agency of the Republic of Belarus (NADA), said the organisation would closely watch the Belarusian competitiors who are due to participate at the second edition of the multi-sport event.

Muzhzhukhin also confirmed all samples collected at the Games will be analysed at a laboratory in Vienna.

The NADA head claimed the organisation would "make every effort" to protect athletes from "ill-wishers" at the Games, scheduled to run from June 21 to 30.

He said the guidance for athletes includes ensuring they are careful to only drink from containers they have unsealed.

Athletes will also be told to not leave their food unattended in a bid to prevent samples from being spiked.

"We can hope that clean athletes will be safe and will be able to show their best at the competitions," Muzhzhukhin said, according to Belarusian news agency BelTA.

More testing will be carried out in sports deemed to have a higher risk of doping, such as cycling, athletics, wrestling, and canoeing, Muzhzhukhin added.

The team of doping control officers at the event will comprise 30 foreigners and 10 Belarusians.

Around 200 volunteers from different countries, including Australia, Canada and the United States, will assist in the drugs-testing operation.
