Hosts Great Britain won both of their matches on day one of the Wheelchair Rugby Quad Nations in Leicester to stand on the brink of the final.

The home side began with a 63-42 victory over Canada at the Morningside Arena and followed that up by beating France 50-40.

It was a bad day for the French as they also lost 45-33 to reigning world champions Japan.

The Japanese, who claimed a surprise world title by beating hosts and last year's Quad Nations winners Australia in the 2018 final, will be looking to add another piece of silverware.

They will play twice tomorrow as the round-robin phase comes to an end, meeting Britain and Canada.

Canada will also play France with the top two teams booking their place in the final on Sunday (March 3).

A bronze medal game will also be contested.

The event comes in the build-up to the World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge, which will be played alongside the Rugby World Cup in Tokyo in October and involve the top eight teams in the world.

Thai duty-free giant King Power are serving as the sponsor for the second year running.

This move is viewed as continuing the legacy of the company's former chairman Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who was also the former chairman of Leicester City Football Club.

He was one of five people tragically killed in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium in Leicester in October.
