World Para Alpine Skiing has confirmed why their World Cup in Espot had to be cancelled, telling insidethegames there were "some issues with the vertical transport".

The body announced earlier this month that the event in the Spanish resort, due to begin on March 3, had been cancelled, but initially they offered no explanation.

Now though, after being contacted by insidethegames, they have blamed the cancellation on technical difficulties.

As a consequence, another World Cup event in La Molina has been extended.

That competition, also in Spain, which is due to begin on March 10, will now feature three super-G races before hosting two giant slalom events and a slalom contest as well.

Action will end on March 16.

It means La Molina will now stage two consecutive weeks of Para-snowsport action, with the next World Para Snowboard World Cup also scheduled to take place there from March 4 to 8.

The final stop of the Para-Alpine skiing season will be Morzine in France, where the World Cup Finals are due to run from March 19 to 21.

France's Marie Bochet, Austria's Claudia Loesch and Slovakia's Henrieta Farkasova are the current Women's World Cup champions across the standing, sitting and visually impaired divisions.

On the men's side the current champions are Switzerland's Theo Gmur, Norway's Jesper Pedersen and Canada's Mac Marcoux.
