Organisers of next year's Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne have opened a competition to design the medals.

Anyone can submit a design up until a deadline on April 8, after which the winner and two runners-up will be chosen by a judging panel formed of young reporters and ambassadors for the Games known as "Change Makers".

Also on the panel will be the chair of the International Olympic Committee’s Coordination Commission for Lausanne 2020 Danka Bartekova, Lausanne 2020 President Virgine Faivre and Viviane Morey, dean of Lausanne’s profession school of applied arts and communication.

Morey's students created the Lausanne 2020 Games mascot.

The winning design will be chosen at the end of April 2019 and feature on the gold, silver and bronze medals to be awarded to athletes at the Games between January 9 and 22.

As well as having their design featured on the medals, the winner will also win a trip to Lausanne for the Opening Ceremony, see the awarding of their medals at the Games and be given a full set of their own medals to keep.
