The confirmation from the French Tennis Federation (FFT) means quad singles and doubles draws will now feature at all four Grand Slam tournaments from this year onwards.

It follows the All England Club’s announcement in November that quad events will also take place at The Championships, Wimbledon in 2019.

The contests at both the French Open and Wimbledon will form part of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and will offer wheelchair tennis ranking points.

At Roland Garros the world’s top four players will be invited to take part.

“We are delighted to introduce a quad wheelchair tennis event at Roland Garros from 2019 and look forward to welcoming the division’s elite players onto the clay courts alongside the competitions for the men’s and women’s divisions,” FFT Higher Council member Jean-Pierre Limborg said.

Players are eligible to compete in quad wheelchair tennis if they have a permanent physical disability that results in substantial loss of function in three or more extremities and that fulfils the sport’s minimum impairment criteria.

At the Australian Open last month, the singles quad title was won by Australia’s Dylan Alcott for the fifth time in a row.

He beat David Wagner from the United States in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.

Alcott also won the doubles title alongside his compatriot Heath Davidson, beating Wagner and his partner Andy Lapthorne 6-3, 6-7, 12-10.

Wheelchair tennis has been played at all four Grand Slams since 2007.

This year's French Open is due to run from May 26 to June 9.
