Australia got the better of hosts Thailand in Bangkok ©IFF

Australia entered the Asia Oceania Floorball Confederation qualification tournament for the Women's World Championships with a bang as they thrashed hosts Thailand 8-2.

Having not been in action on day one, the Australians wasted little time in impressing in the Group A clash.

They roared into a 5-0 lead and the victory never looked in doubt at Bangkok's Huamark Indoor Stadium.

Tara Meyer and Yasmine Skene both scored twice for Australia, with Ruby Wright, Alexandra Staib, Taneeka LaBrooy and Blaise Hodges also registering for the world number 12 side.

Sirinan Boonbut and Lalita Kuiraphanew scored for Thailand, ranked 19th in the world, who could not back up their 6-1 victory over New Zealand yesterday.

The Kiwis recovered from that reverse as they beat tournament outsiders The Philippines 4-2 in the second Group A match.

In the one Group B match played, Singapore made it two victories from two by beating South Korea 10-2.

The Koreans also lost 10-1 to Japan yesterday.

Group matches are due to continue tomorrow.

Four of the eight teams competing in Bangkok will earn a place at the World Championships in Neuchâtel in Switzerland in December.

Both group winners will book their spots and also contest the final, while the teams who finish second and third will meet in play-off games.

The winners of these matches will play for bronze and also qualify for Neuchâtel.
