The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC) have sought cooperation with the French Basketball Federation to boost the sport in the country.

A meeting took place at the UAE NOC headquarters in Dubai.

UAE NOC acting secretary general Talal Al Shanqeeti and executive director Mohammed bin Darwish met with French Basketball Federation President Jean-Pierre Siutat and Salim Rashid Al-Mutawa, the UAE Basketball Association secretary general.

"In keeping with the vision of H.H Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE NOC, we are looking forward to intensifying our experiences and extending cooperation with all associations and sports federations," said Al Shanqeeti.

"Such efforts will open up several areas of Olympic activities, cooperation, friendship, knowledge and exchange of experiences, besides establishing a strong relationship with various sports and Olympic associations."

The UAE NOC said the meeting saw discussions over 3x3 basketball prior to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Reviews of the agenda of upcoming events and updates on laws, regulations and technical and organisational matters were also reportedly discussed.

Discussions over future cooperation such as exchanging visits, organising workshops and educational sessions for coaches and technical teams also took place.

The possibility of organising camps and friendly games between all age groups was also mooted.

"There is no doubt that the sports sector in the UAE has made excellent achievements in the interest of the sport, enabling athletes to develop their skills through benefiting from the UAE's unique and advanced facilities," said Siutat.

"Also, we would like to acknowledge the great role played of the UAE NOC in raising the sport's awareness of all games, through multiple initiatives and programmes that included schools; the source of talents.

"We hope to exchange cooperation with the UAE NOC shortly to serve all parties."
