Australia’s Helen Carmen and England’s Nick Brett booked their place in the mixed pairs final at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Norfolk.

The duo combined to good effect to beat the defending champions England’s Jamie Chestney and Scotland’s Lesley Doig at the Potters Resort.

Carmen and Brett celebrated a 6-4, 6-5 semi-final victory.

They will now face the challenge of England’s Ellen Falkner and Robert Paxton in the final.

Falkner and Paxton triumphed 8-4, 5-6, 2-1 against England’s Janice Gower and Scotland’s Paul Foster.

The final will be played on Tuesday (January 22).

In the men’s singles first round, Andy Thomson overcame fellow English player Wayne Willgress 7-4, 7-9, 2-0.

He will face either second seed Greg Harlow of England or Australia’s Brendan Egan in the second round.

Competition will continue tomorrow.

The open pairs final is due to be tomorrow’s highlight.
