Men's compound rankings leader Mike Schloesser topped the qualification round held on day one of the third leg of the Indoor Archery World Series season in Rome.

The Dutchman shot 598, including 58 10s and 2 9s, to lead the way at the Fiera di Roma Convention Centre in the Italian capital.

Known as the Roma Archery Trophy, the event follows the GT Open in Luxembourg and the Macau Open on this year's circuit.

In the women's compound, South Korea's Chaewon So headed today's qualification with a score of 594.

She fired in 54 10s and six 9s in her score.

In recurve action, South Korea's Jongyoung Lee topped the men's pile with a tally of 586.

He punctured the 10-ring 46 times and also recorded 14 9s.

South Korea also headed the women's recurve list as Chaeyun Kim managed a score of 590.

She recorded a half-century of 10s and 10 9s to lead the way.

More qualifications will be held in Rome tomorrow before the individual matches are played to conclude the event on Sunday (December 16).

The event is the last major archery competition of 2018.

More than 600 archers are competing in all.
