China's Shi Xunyao and Qian Tianyi have progressed to the semi-finals of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Junior Championships in the Australian city of Bendigo. 

The top seeds from China both won their quarter-finals at the Bendigo Stadium to reach the semis of the girls' singles event and increase the chance of meeting in the final.

Shi defeated Japan's Satsuki Odo  11-8, 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 to progress, while Qian was also victorious against a Japanese player in a fiercely contested fixture against Miyuu Kihara  which eventually ended 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7.

Shi is now due to play Yumeno Soma  of Japan, a winner today against Chinese qualifier Guo Yuhan 11-6, 11-4, 11-7, 14-12, 11-9.

Qian is now set to face Chinese Taipei's Su Pei-Ling after she triumphed against Japan's Miyu Nagasaki 11-8, 11-6, 5-11, 8-11, 14-12, 13-11.

Two Chinese players also feature in the boys' semi-finals, with Xiang Peng beating India's Manav Vikash Thakkar 11-6, 11-5, 7-11, 14-16, 11-4, 8-11, 11-8 to progress.

He is now scheduled to compete against Japan's Yukiya Uda  for a place in the final after defeated China's Xu Yingbin 9-11, 7-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9.

The second semi-final is set to take place between China's Xu Haidong and Romania's Cristian Pletea. 

Xu won his quarter-final tie against Japan's Yuka Tanaka 9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-9, while Pletea comfortably beat China's Yu Heyi 12-10, 13-11, 11-9, 11-7.

The semis will precede the finals tomorrow on what will be the concluding day of action in Bendigo.
