Olympic and European champions Sweden suffered their second consecutive defeat at the second leg of the Curling World Cup in Omaha.

After losing to Japan yesterday, Sweden's women were today beaten by Scotland 6-2 at the Ralston Arena.

Scotland are now joint top of Group B with Japan, who secured a comfortable 10-2 victory against China.

The United States are top of Group A after their second win of the competition, defeating Russia 7-5, while South Korea recorded their first victory with a 6-4 triumph over Canada. 

"I think in this event it’s really important to get a head start," said US skip Jamie Sinclair. 

"We’ve done that so far. 

"So it’s definitely put us in a really good mindset.”

The Olympic champions in the men's event, the United States, overcame their opening day defeat to beat Scotland 8-3 and Canada 5-3.

China lost to Canada 6-3 but then won their second game of the day against Scotland 5-3 to go joint top of Group A with the US.

In Group B, Norway got a 6-3 victory against Sweden which maintained their unbeaten so far.

They then lost 7-5 to Japan, however, and with Sweden beating Switzerland 8-2, both teams are now joint leaders of their group. 

The mixed doubles event saw the Swiss duo of Jenny Perret and Martin Rios top Group A after beating Sweden 9-7.

Norway and the United States share the lead in Group B, with the Norwegians defeating China 7-5 and the Americans overcoming Russia 8-3.

The group standings in each event will become clearer tomorrow as the round robin competitions continue.
