Defending champions North Korea defeated the United States to get back on track at the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay.

Ri Kum-Hyang scored first for North Korea before Kim Yun-Ok and Kim Kyong-Yong added to the tally to ensure a comfortable 3-0 win for the holders at the Estadio Alberto Suppici in Colonia Del Sacramento.

They had started their Group C campaign with a heavy 4-1 defeat to Germany but this victory means they are back in the hunt for a place in the quarter-finals.

Germany suffered a 1-0 loss to Cameroon after Alice Kameni scored in the second half to give her team their first-ever FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup win.

As the US beat Cameroon in their first match, all four sides in the group now have three points before the last round of fixtures.

The top two in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.

In Group D matches held at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo, Canada beat South Korea 2-0 with Jordyn Huitema and Lara Kazandjian scoring.

Colombia and Spain played out a 1-1 draw,with Maria Okoye putting the Spanish 1-0 up before Gisela Robledo quickly equalised.

Canada's second win has qualified them for the quarter-finals while Spain are well placed on four points.

The tournament will resume on Tuesday (November 20) when Groups A and B will be completed.
