Hansol Ha claimed gold at the International Fencing Federation's Men's Sabre World Cup in Algiers.

The South Korean defeated Italy's Luigi Samele, an Olympic team bronze medallist at London 2012, in the final in the Algerian capital.

He came through by a 15-9 scoreline at the Salle Omnisports Harcha Hacene.

The World Cup was contested to its completion from the last-64 stage today.

Ha defeated compatriot and double team world champion Oh Sang-uk in his last-four encounter, 15-10.

Samele also had to knock-out a team-mate in the semi-finals, seeing off fellow Italian Enrico Berre 15-13.

World number one Eli Derschwitz of the United States exited in the last-32 as he lost to Romania's Tiberiu Dolniceanu, who went on to reach the quarter-finals where he was beaten by Ha.

South Korea's Gu Bon-gil, a double Olympic team champion and also a world team gold medallist, was ranked second but lost his opening match to Japan's Kenta Tokunan.

A team event will conclude the World Cup tomorrow.
