China's Wang Zhiyi, a key player in her country's successful defence of the Badminton World Federation World Junior Mixed Team Championships title on Sunday (November 11), will get back into action tomorrow as the top seed in the women's singles draw now underway at Markham in Canada.

Wang, who crucially tipped the Chinese challenge in the semi-finals when she survived two match points before beating Japan's Hirari Mizui, and who went on to win her singles match in last night night's 3-1 final victory over South Korea, had a well-earned rest through a bye today as the World Junior Championships resumed with singles and doubles tournaments.

The 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games silver medallist is now scheduled to face Fernanda Saponara Rivva of Peru at the Pan Am Centre.

Meanwhile, the Thai player who beat her to gold at Buenos Aires 2018 and who is seeded second in Markham, Phittayaporn Chaiwan, has also benefited from a bye and is now due to play Mongolia's Badamlyankhua Batbayar in the second round.

Wang's team-mate Li Shifeng, whose men's singles win contributed to their victory yesterday, is seeded third in the men's singles and also received a bye.

He is set to face a second round tie against Wei Hong Lee of Singapore, who beat South Korea's Hak Joo Lee 21-16, 21-17 in the first round at the Pan Am Centre.

Thailand boast the top seed in the men’s singles in the form of Kunlavut Vitidsar, top seed at the Youth Olympics, where Li finished as gold medallist.

Meanwhile the Indonesian who finished sixth in Buenos Aires, Ikhsan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay, seeded second in Canada, faces a second round meeting with Norway's Benjamin Norden.
