The man considered the pioneer of Para-badminton in Peru, Pedro Pablo De Vinatea, has qualified for the quarter-finals in the men's singles SL3 division at the Pan American Para Championships on home soil.

De Vinatea, who is the top seed in his event, won his second Group A match today against Brazil's Jonathan Cardoso, 21-5, 21-11.

He now advances into the knock-out rounds unbeaten at the Villa Deportiva Nacional in Lima.

The 2013 Peruvian Para-athlete of the year will now face his compatriot Enrique Rispa Ramirez in the quarters, who advanced with one win and one loss in Group B.

Generally speaking it was a strong day for the hosts all-round.

On the women's side their top seed in the SS6 singles Giuliana Poveda also advanced into the knock-out rounds with a win over Chile's Carmen Carrasco Maureira in Group A of her event.

Just like De Vinatea, she goes through unbeaten, but unlike her compatriot she has a bye through the quarter-finals and so will not play again until the semis.

In the wheelchair events, Pilar Jaurequi Cancino, another top seeded Peruvian, also won her match today to advance unbeaten.

She saw off Brazil's Auricelia Nunes Freitas 21-3, 21-2 in the WH2 singles event and again, she has a bye through the last eight.

In the semi-finals she will play whoever wins the all-Brazilian clash between the second seed Maria Dos Santos and unseeded Danielle Souza.
