Serbian Novak Djokovic booked his place in the third round of the Association of Tennis Professionals Paris Masters with a convincing straight sets victory over Portugal's João Sousa in the French capital today.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion recorded a 7-5, 6-1 win to set up a meeting with Bosnia's Damir Dzumhur at the AccorHotels Arena.

Djokovic also helped a spectator who had fallen ill just before he served for the match at 5-1 in the second set.

The 31-year-old US Open and Wimbledon champion is targeting a record-extending fifth title in Paris, the host city for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Elsewhere on the second day of the tournament in the French capital, Canadian Milos Raonic battled through with a three-set win over Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Raonic, runner-up at Wimbledon in 2016, claimed a 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 victory to progress to the next round, where he will face Switzerland's Roger Federer.

"I feel like it’s better for me to play matches rather than practice, and I think that’s it. As long as I don’t feel like I’m taking a chance on my health prior to London (the ATP Tour Finals), that’s the key as well,” Federer, who received a bye in the first round, said.

World number one Rafael Nadal is also due to make his entrance at the event tomorrow as he faces compatriot Fernando Verdasco.
