Hosts China were crowned winners of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Bridge Championships as competition concluded.

Four days of competition were held at the Xuzhou University of Technology, where athletes also stayed.

Defending champions Poland had led after the first day, but proved unable to hold onto their advantage.

The Chinese team battled back and eventually topped the standings, meaning the hosts of the last two editions have triumphed, with Poland having won the 2016 event in Lodz.

Poland would finish as the silver medallists, while the podium was completed by the Czech Republic.

Zhang Xinke, Organising Committee chairman, praised all athletes who participated at the competition.

He claimed the Championships had built "a bridge" for the competing countries to deepen their understanding and friendship.

The Championship was also asserted to have provided a rare opportunity for Chinese students to learn from foreign athletes.
