Ziaubeyte's final flourish brought Lithuania level on gold medals – five – with Russia, although the latter’s superior record in silver and bronze meant they took second place in the overall medals table behind runaway winners Ukraine, who finished the Championships here in Poland with nine golds, 13 silvers and three bronzes.

Of the Ukraine victories, none was more dramatic than that of European champion Maryna Oborska in the women’s bikini fitness over 172cm class.

That meant Russia's defending champion, and defending overall champion, Natalia Lugovskikh had to settle for silver, with Lithuania’s Neda Silkinyte taking bronze.

But perhaps none of the Ukraine wins was more emotional than the one earned by Oksana Brygidyr, who finally cracked it in the women's bikini fitness up-to-169cm class.

After taking silver in 2016 and 2017, she had gold this time - and tears of joy.

Second place went to her Ukrainian compatriot Albina Ustymenko, with Estonia's Julia Tzisova third.

Russia's Alina Malykhina took gold in the up-to-166cm class, ahead of Ukraine's Kateryna Stoianova, with bronze going to another Russian, Olga Pyatetskaya.

The women’s bikini fitness competition dominated the proceedings on the second day, with eight large classes being judged.

In the first tranche of four finals, gold in the smallest class, the up-to-158cm, went to Russia's Anna Baikina, with Ukraine's Anastasiia Dobrosol taking silver and bronze being earned by Slovakia's Beata Granakova.

In the up-to-160cm class, Estonia's only gold of these Championships was delivered by Arida Muru.

Silver went to Ukraine's Sofiia Maiboroda, and bronze to her compatriot Yana Yenko

The announcement for gold in the women's bikini fitness up-to-162cm class got the home decibel level rising sharply as it went to Natalia Czajkowska, only the second win for the hosts at their event.

Defending champion Hanna Kulinich of Russia had to settle for silver ahead of Ukraine's Inna Sochynska.

The women's bikini fitness up-to-164cm category was won by Ukraine's Kristina Korotka ahead of her compatriot Ievgeniia Filonenko, with bronze goiing to home athlete Anna Wozniackowska.

Ukraine's Stanislav Korchynski was named gold medallist in the muscular men's physique class ahead of Canada's Lemar Martin and third-placed Dario Fernandez of Spain.

The final event - the IFBB Elite Pro World Men's Physique Championships - saw Ukraine's Dymytro Horobets claim victory.

Norway's Dennis Johansen was silver medallist, and bronze went to Dymtro Voievodchuk.

There was a major shock in the men's fitness open final as Ukraine's multiple winner Nazar Kharkhun, whose athletic routines were startlingly accomplished, had to settle for silver behind Slovakia's Michal Barbier. 

Bronze went to China's Zhou Junqiang.

Slovakia's Kristina Juricova took the women's fitness over 163cm title, with silver going to Russia's Olga Demchuk and Estonia's Endla Vaher winning bronze.

Russia's Evgenia Mischenko won the women's fitness up-to-163cm title ahead of compatriot Asiya Gabidullina.

Bronze went to Slovakia's Michaela Pavleova.

The mixed pairs gold went to Yulia Gombosh and Vadym Vasylevskyi, with Ukrainian team-mates Viktoriia Pohribniak and Anton Ferents taking silver.

Bronze was earned by the new Dutch pairing of Jorine Wierenga and Bart Schneider.
