The US had beaten the United Kingdom 41-33 in the semi-finals to progress to the gold medal match, while The Netherlands won against New Zealand 26-12. 

The Americans then beat The Netherlands 29-17 to get gold at the Quaycentre.

In the bronze medal match, the United Kingdom dominated against New Zealand, winning 32-6. 

The action was followed by a Closing Ceremony at the Qudos Bank Arena, signalling the end of seven days of competition.

In attendance were all 500 competitors and their families, alongside guests such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove and Australian swimming great Ian Thorpe. 

Participants were awarded with a commemorative medal, with New Zealand archer and wheelchair rugby player George Nepata and Dutch tennis and basket player Edwin Vermetten honoured for their exceptional performances. 

"Your example goes beyond the military community," Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and founder of the Games, said at the ceremony.

"It is about more than your inspiring stories of recovery from injury and illness.

"It is about your example of determination, of optimism, of strength, honour and friendship, or as the Aussies call it, mate-ship.

"A core value that has the power to inspire the world."

The next Invictus Games, which are for wounded members of the armed forces, will be held at The Hague in The Netherlands in 2020.
