Hosts Australia claimed victory in the men's wheelchair rugby competition as the Invictus Games continued in Sydney.

Australia had progressed from the pool phase of the competition to set up a semi-final meeting with France.

The home team secured a comfortable 32-15 victory over their European rivals to advance to the gold medal match.

They would face competition from the United Kingdom, who secured an 18-12 win over the United States in their semi-final.

Australia would edge the UK in both halves of the gold medal match to be crowned as winners of the competition.

The hosts held a 23-17 lead at the conclusion of play.

The US would clinch the bronze medal, following a close contest with France.

They edged their rivals 24-20 to complete the podium.

Powerlifting competition continued at the Games, with Jordan’s Ahmad Hashem Jehad Albarahmeh winning the men's lightweight IP4 event.

Britain's Martin Tye won the men's IP6 heavyweight event, while Australia's Sarah Petchell secured first place in the women's IP3 heavyweight competition.

Sarah Sliwka, also of Australia, won the women's IP1 lightweight event.

It is the fourth version of the Games - founded in 2014 by Britain's Prince Harry for injured, wounded or sick members of the armed forces.

The previous editions were held in London, Orlando and Toronto.

The Games will take place until Saturday (October 27).
