Chinese Taipei edged hosts Colombia to secure the final available place in the super round at the World Baseball Softball Confederation Under-23 Baseball World Cup.

In a dramatic 10-inning contest, Chinese Taipei emerged with a 6-5 win to progress to the next phase of the event at the Edgar Renteria Baseball Stadium in Barranquilla.

Outfielder Tai Yun Chen, who tied the game with a solo home run, and second baseman Li Kai Wei, who provided a bases clearing double in the top of the tenth, proved crucial in Chinese Taipei's narrow victory.

"For Colombia it's been a honor to host a tournament of this level," said Colombia manager Jair Fernandez.

"I'm very sorry for our fans.

"We tried our best, but this is baseball and only one team can win."
