Dutch cyclists Mathieu van der Poel and Marianne Vos won the men's and women's International Cycling Union (UCI) Cyclo-Cross World Cup event in the Swiss capital Bern. 

Van Der Poel won the event in 1 hour 04min 48sec, securing his first victory at the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup event this season after skipping the first two rounds in the United States. 

Runner-up Wout Van Aert of Belgium finished eight seconds behind, while Toon Aerts came in third, 58 seconds behind the winner.

Aerts remains the overall leader of the men's UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup with 225 points, 15 more than Van Aert.

The fourth World Cup round of the season is due to be held in Tábor in the Czech Republic on November 17.

"I’m pleased that I’ll be wearing the white jersey in Tábor, and hopefully, I’ll still wear it in the next round in Koksijde," van Der Poel said. 

"It’s a bit difficult for me to focus on one classification right now, this early in the season."

In the women's competition, overall leader Vos, the double Olympic gold medallist on the track and road and seven-time world cyclo-cross champion, won her second World Cup event of the season.

Vos won in 41min 00sec, with Annemarie Worst of The Netherlands nine seconds behind and Katherine Compton of the US finishing 20 two seconds behind Vos in third.
