Turkey beat England in dramatic fashion today to qualify for the playoffs from Group A at the World Mixed Curling Championship in Kelowna in Canada.

With holders Scotland the first to qualify at the Championship, Turkey were close behind after their 8-5 come-back win in the final session of day five at the Kelowna Curling Club.

In the eighth end, facing four counter stones, England had a draw to secure victory.

But they came up light, giving Turkey a steal of four points and the win.

"We are very happy," Turkey’s vice-skip Bilal Ömer Çakır said.

"Now we are okay for the group, we are qualified.

With the Scotland match tomorrow, maybe we will make first [in Group A]."

In the morning session, Turkey beat Hong Kong 7-4, while Germany defeated Italy 6-4.

The Germans then lost 6-1 to Scotland in the evening session.

They are now third in Group A, with five wins and two losses.

Czech Republic are the first nation to qualify in Group C after overcoming Chinese Taipei 7-4 in their morning game.

They then dropped their first game of the Championship in the evening, losing 6-3 to Spain who are one step closer to their goal of qualifying.

Battling for third place in the group are Chinese Taipei, France and Sweden, all of whom are at a deadlock with four wins and three losses.
