France's Thibaut Pinot soloed to victory at the Il Lombardia as Alvaro Hodeg of Colombia was victorious in the fifth stage of the Tour of Turkey.

Pinot, riding for Groupama–FDJ, triumphed after breaking away from a four man group including Vincenzo Nibali, Primoz Roglic and Egan Bernal.

The final Classic Monument of the season covered a gruelling 241 kilometre course from Bergarno to Lungo Laria.

It was a fine win for Pinot in the end by a margin of 32 seconds.

At the Tour of Turkey, another International Cycling Union World Tour race, Hodeg won the leg for Quick-Step Floors.

The Colombian was called upon when his leader, Fernando Gaviria, dropped out of the event with a broken collarbone.

Hodeg finished the 135.7km stage in 3 hours 15min and 12sec, beating John Degenkolb of Germany and Nathan Haas of Australia to be crowned the victor of stage five out of 135 riders.

"It's an amazing feeling because the team continue to believe in me, it's a really nice feeling that I can get the victory for them," Hodeg said.

Haas is now only four seconds behind event leader Alexey Lutsenko of Kazakhstan, who took the overall lead and the turquoise jersey yesterday.

Defending champion Diego Ulissi of Italy is in third place behind Haag and Lutsenko.

The final stage of the event takes place tomorrow, with the finish line in Istanbul.
