The International Judo Federation (IJF) circuit will continue in Mexico tomorrow with the Cancun Grand Prix.

The event will run until October 14 and 344 competitors from 52 countries are due to compete.

It will be the first major IJF event since the World Championships in Baku last month.

The competition will take place in the Poliforum Benito Juarez with gold medallists awarded $3,000 (€2,600/£2,700).

"The IJF is looking forward to returning to the tropical vacation city of Cancun, Mexico, in October for a true judo festival," said IJF President Marius Vizer.

"Mexico hosted its first ever Grand Prix last year in Cancun following a fantastic edition of the World Judo Masters in Guadalajara in 2016.

"The second edition of the Cancun Grand Prix marks a historic month for Mexican judo as the IJF will remain in the city to stage the Kata World Championships and Veteran World Championships.

"The Mexican Judo Federation are gaining more experience and becoming increasingly competent in hosting IJF World Judo Tour events which all leave a legacy in the country.

"I wish everyone a wonderful stay in Mexico and a successful competition."

The President of the Mexican Judo Federation, Manuel Larranaga, echoed Vizer's sentiments and welcomed the delegations who will be arriving in Mexico.

"On behalf the Pan-American Judo Confederation and the Mexican Judo Federation we welcome you to the Grand Prix Cancun 2018," Larranaga said.

"I thank the International Judo Federation and the Government of Quintana Roo for their valuable support in organising this event.

"I wish a great success to all participants, and hope that this Grand Prix be a great experience."
