October 5 - Mayor of Sochi Anatoly Pakhomov delivered an inspirational speech when he addressed delegates of the Generations For Peace camp earlier today.

Pakhomov spoke of his admiration for the values of "peace through sport"..

He told the 57 delegates: "The whole world understands now that the Olympic Games is not just about sport itself.

"It is about future generations, and their health and happiness.

"I am delighted that Generations For Peace has chosen to host its camp in Sochi.

"What you are doing is very important for promoting and supporting our shared values."

The Mayor was joined by Wilfried Lemke, UN Special Advisor on Sport for Development and Peace, to Sochi Camp 2010, who also addressed the camp.

In a question-and-answer session with the delegates this morning, Lemke said: "Believe in your strength, your power.

"Do your best to bring an end to conflict.

"You are role models.

"The philosopher Pestalozzi said, ‘When you are educating children, you need two things: love, and role models‘.

"You are very young, and I am very old, but this is something that unites us all."

The presence of two figures with such influence in the spheres of sport and politics demonstrates Generations For Peace’s increasing visibility on the world stage.

Prince Feisal Al-Hussein, the founder and chairman of Generations For Peace, was delighted with the public show of high profile support.

"It is a real honour to have Mr Lemke and Mr Pakhomov talk so passionately to our delegates," he said.

"I am positive that their words will provide even more inspiration to these young men and women as they embark on their journey to become Certified Generations For Peace Pioneers.

"The support shown for our initiative by the UN and the City of Sochi, along with the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee, proves that the world is recognising the significance of what we are trying to achieve.

"Using sport as a tool for bridging the conflict divide, Generations For Peace really is making a difference."

Today’s events come less than 24 hours after the President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, gave his own public endorsement of Generations For Peace.

Speaking during his visit to the Jordan Olympic Committee yesterday, Rogge said: "I have been very impressed by the work of His Royal Highness and the active role that he continues to play within the Olympic Movement.

"Jordan is in the Top 10 per cent of the world’s NOCs (National Olympic Committees) according to what it has achieved in such a short space of time, and Prince Feisal’s own initiative - Generations For Peace - is a great step forward in promoting peace through sport."
