Hosts Russia and the United States earned top spot in their respective groups by maintaining their 100 per cent records at the Women's Water Polo World Cup in Surgut.

Russia recorded an 19-11 victory at the Olympic Reserve School sports complex to seal first place in Group B.

Maria Berseneva led the way with five goals for Russia, who will face Group A's bottom team South Africa in the quarter-finals.

"I liked the way we played today," said Berseneva.

"We have a great team and we feel chemistry, which would love to showcase further on passing through the finals."

The US also completed the group phase with three wins from three as they dispatched Canada 17-3.

It rounded off a dominant run of scoring performances from the US, who averaged over 20 goals per game having found the net on 61 occasions in their three group games.

China, who finished last in Group B, will be tasked with stemming the run of American goals when they play the US in the last eight.

Elsewhere today, Australia were held to an 8-8 draw by Spain in Group A.

The Spanish team edged Australia into second place and will next face New Zealand, who beat South Africa 10-4.

Australia will take on Canada, with all four quarter-finals scheduled to take place tomorrow.
