The International Paralympic Committee have revealed the shortlist for August's Allianz Athlete of the Month prize and opened the public vote.

The nominations feature five athletes from a variety of different nations and sports.

The Netherlands are represented by Mariska Beijer and Liesette Bruinsma, nominated for their performances in wheelchair basketball and swimming respectively.

Beijer was named the 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships' most valuable player after she scored 21 points and secured 12 rebounds in the final against Britain.

In winning the tournament, the Dutch women picked up their first major title.

Seventeen-year-old Bruinsma is nominated for her four golds and one silver medal at the 2018 Para Swimming European Championships.

She broke three world records in doing so, taking a massive six seconds off the eight-year-old record in the women's 400 metres freestyle S11 event.
