The country defeated Jamaica in the final of the 2016 tournament in Miami but none of the gold medallists will return to play at Makerere University in Kampala next month.

A strong squad has still been confirmed, with half coming from the University of Pretoria.

Their selection also includes South African under-21 internationals and players with caps for the national Fast5 team.

Jamaica, Sri Lanka, Singapore, United States, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Australia, Zimbabwe, Burundi and the host nation will also participate at the tournament between September 17 and 21.

Betty Kizza, Joan Nampungu and Muhaimuna Namuwaya, who all represented their country at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in April, will be among the players competing for Uganda. 

The US are also hoping for a strong showing and have already been supported by the American ambassador to Uganda, Deborah Malac.

"Netball is a major sport in Uganda and it is also an emerging sports in the United States," she said. 

"It is great to see Netball America developing the sport in schools and at university level, and we are eager to see its progress. 

"We are excited that the first all-American citizen netball team will be participating in the Championship in Uganda and we look forward to welcoming them."

The event in Uganda will be the third edition of the World Championship.

England won the inaugural event in Cape Town in South Africa in 2012, beating the host nation in the final.
